Elizabeth is a small town of just over 1,000 residents in Central Colorado, about an hour Southeast of Denver. Normally it doesn’t make the news but a tragic defensive gun use is making the rounds of state media due to the sad fact that it involved a mother shooting her own son.
The incident occurred last Monday afternoon at around 4:00 PM and saw 23-year-old James Mamich breaking into the home of his mother, whose name is not yet being released, located in the 36000 block of County Road 17.
According to police reports on the incidents, “Mamich, who does not reside at the location, [allegedly] broke into the house and assaulted his mother, who then shot him when she feared for her life,”
It was Mamich’s mother who called the police and informed them of her actions and her son’s condition.
James Mamich was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his gunshot injuries where he is expected to make a recovery, however, he will be facing a litany of legal charges for his actions once he gets out of the hospital. These charges include first-degree burglary, criminal mischief, and assault.
As for Mamich’s mother, the District Attorney and local authorities have said that she will not be facing any charges for her defense of herself from her enraged son.
